For the entire months of July & August, each Fitness Town location in the Vancouver Area will be supporting kids in need, through The Salvation Army.
Fitness Town is making a difference in the lives of Vancouver kids by partnering with The Salvation Army to ensure that kids in need don’t miss out on an exciting summer and fulfilling start to the school year in the fall.
Every September, single-parent and low-income families struggle to equip their children for a new school year. Each year, The Salvation Army supports these families by distributing donated school supplies. Given the current economic downturn, The Salvation Army anticipates an increase in demand for this service.
Fitness Town locations will be collecting school supplies and backpacks for the fall, and collecting donations that will send kids to camp this summer, who otherwise could not afford to go!
“We’ve seen a real increase of families in need of our support as a result of the current economic climate,” said Major Brian Venables, Salvation Army spokesperson. “The downturn has emptied parent’s pockets. They need your support to ensure that their kids are well equipped with supplies to succeed in school.”
Poor economic circumstances also threaten the important summer tradition of camping for many kids whose parents can no longer afford to send them. Fitness Town patrons that want to sponsor a child’s camp fee can leave their name and number with a Fitness Town employee, or call Kirsten at The Salvation Army Vancouver Family Services directly, at 604-872-7676.
