Tis' the time of year for some good ole new year's resolutions. But this year is going to be different right?!? We all resolve to eat better, lose weight, get more fit, drink less wine etc etc but how many of us actually stick to the plan? Make 2019 the year for small changes.

Here is our list of simple resolutions for 2019, and don’t worry... they don’t all include working out.

If you resolve to eat healthier. It's simple...

  • Avoid white carbs such as white rice, pasta and bread. Stick with whole grains.
  • Maximize your vegetable consumption. To make life easier, buy ready to eat, washed and pre-cut vegetables, the greener the better. So when you need a snack, they will be ready to eat. You can also do this with fruit. However fruits generally contain sugar and carbs which can lead to weight gain if you consume too much.
  • Clear your fridge and pantry of junk food.

If you resolve to lose weight...

  • cut out liquid calories like fruit juices, creamers, cocktails and wine. These beverages are packed with sugar.
  • Another culprit is carbs. Consume small portions of whole grain carbs only. Or better yet cut out carbs altogether for the fastest road to weight loss

If you resolve to exercise more...

Follow the 10 minute rule. Squeeze in 10 minutes of exercise throughout your day. Take the stairs instead of the elevator, take a quick walk around the block, get off the bus one stop early, park a bit farther from your destination, run on your treadmill before you morning shower, or do some quick bosu ball exercises before bed time. It’s amazing how much these little bits of exercise add up through the day.

If you resolve to get more sleep...

Set a bedtime and prepare for it 30 minutes ahead by reading or taking a hot shower. Make sure to get 8 hours of sleep each night. And when you can, take a cat nap in the early afternoon. It’s amazing how a quick 20 minute nap can recharge your batteries.

If you resolve to clear the clutter...

Simple tackle one room or area per week. You don’t have to do it all at once. Dedicate 10 minutes a day and you’ll be surprised how much you’ve collected by the end of the week. A couple rules of thumb for decluttering are:

  • If you haven’t used something in two-years, get rid of it. This doesn't mean tossing it in the garbage, donate to your local thrift shop or others in need.
  • When you buy something new, get rid of something old.
  • And as Marie Kondo would advise, only keep it if it sparks joy.

If you resolve to save money...

  •  Whether you are shopping online or at a store, always wait 24 hours before making a purchase.
  • Stop eating out! Cook at home more often. There are many simple, fast and healthy recipes online that require only a few ingredients and 15 minutes of your time to make.
  • Instead of wasting money on a gym membership that could cost you hundreds of dollars a year, try setting up a home gym. It will save you time and money in the long run plus you can workout whenever the mood strikes you. Start small. For instance purchase a Fitness Mat, a Bosu Ball, a TRX suspension kit and a good pair of running shoes. Then workout in 10 minute increments when the mood strikes you.

By making small enhancements, you can change your life for the better.

From family to yours, we wish you a very happy, healthy and active 2019! Be the best version of you; physically, emotionally and spiritually.
