Join me through my final experience tackling the “Learn to Run 10km” program using the Zero RunnerMuskelaufbau Laufstudie Mann

So, here we are at the final installment of my “Learn to run 10km” experience using the Zero Runner by Octane Fitness. If you haven't been following along, here's what you've been missing.

We are currently about 2 months after I started the program and I've done 13 weeks worth of running in 2/3rds the time (based on the typical program timeline). I am also running 10 kilometers non-stop in just under an hour now which is exciting. Overall, the experience has been great! If you haven’t had a chance to read Part 1 or Part 2 of this series, feel free to do so at anytime.

What changed during the program?

Overall, my cardio health has definitely improved, my legs feel stronger and are more toned, and I have rediscovered my love of running - even if it is indoors. I haven’t lost anymore weight, but, that has more to do with the strength training I was also doing alongside the program and the less than disciplined diet over the last 3 weeks or so. The most noticeable and significant improvement in my opinion has been in my attitude and desire towards living an active lifestyle. The Zero Runner has reinvigorated my sense of commitment to health and fitness. Even if this was the only benefit I experienced from the past 2 months, I know it would be completely worth it.

Did the Zero Runner hold up?

Zero Runner Product.jpgThe Zero Runner, which I used to do my workouts, seemed to hold up to its reliable reputation. There was a few tweaks I needed to make here and there, but considering its constant use I was impressed! It was used more than your typical home unit would be since I used it 4-6 days a week. Additionally, many others would use it as well at our Fitness Town location. For the first 2/3rds of the program, I had been using it just on carpet, not on the recommended mat. Due to its consistent use, we realized that it needed to be re-leveled due to the carpet flooring. Once we re-leveled it and got it onto the proper mat, it was working perfectly. Other than the re-leveling, the Zero Runner has made it through the program with flying colours.

Using the Octane Fitness app

Polar Loop

I mentioned in Part 2 that I was going to start to use the Octane SmartLink app. This app allowed me to track my progress and explore the cross-training options that Octane offers in more depth. Overall, I must say I was quite impressed with the app and its capabilities. If you wanted to gather more data, I suggest looking into the Polar Loop. This activity tracker is compatible with a heart rate tracker which can provide you with a great insight into your workout.

Octane SmartLink app.pngI found that the Octane app was very easy to set up my profile and start going which is important to me. No one wants to be sitting there fiddling around with a confusing app! Those sorts of things make you want to throw your phone/device across the room - no joke. The first time I paired my iPad to the Zero runner (Bluetooth, I might add), all I had to do was pick the type of machine I was going to use and it connected almost automatically. After that, the  Zero runner would connect automatically with my iPad as soon as I started using the Zero Runner with the app open. From  there, the app would track my workouts, time, calories burnt, distance ran and all the analytic's that a typical runner would like. The really cool feature though was the live stride tracker! The SmartLink works with the Zero Runner to give you a profile of eachstride. This allows the user to make any changes they may need in order to maximize their workout. The last feature in the app I want to talk about is for all those multi-taskers out there - you know who you are! The Octane app allows you to check your email, social media, listen to your music, catch up on any TV shows or watch a movie all at the same time. This is a great addition for those who are always on the move or work from home.

Overall thoughts about the Zero Runner and Octane Fitness

My final and overall comments on OctaneOctane Logo and on the Zero Runner are that they are both truly innovative and constantly changing the fitness world. They are striving to come up with new, exciting and better ways to improve the lives of others and get more people into a health and fitness minded lifestyle. With the founder’s previous experience in the industry, they have brought a culture of quality and excellence to their latest endeavor. The Zero Runner itself truly does what it advertises it will; it’s a running machine that gives a great cardio workout, improves running techniques and helps to correct muscle imbalances. It does all of this with no impact and, as a result, no joint pain in the knee, ankle or hips. It’s a great machine made by a great company and I can’t wait to see what they come up with next. In the meantime, I’m going to keep running and...
