Enjoy Your Exercise

The Hard Truth

Getting into or staying in shape is a very simple process: eat healthy and be active… always. Simple, but not easy. People start exercising with the best of intentions, but usually end up quitting within the first six weeks. Overhauling one’s lifestyle is not an easy thing to do and the typical method of hitting the reset button is to get a gym membership and start grinding out workouts three to five days a week. Unless the gym atmosphere and new routine really clicks, motivation wears thin and the best of intentions can’t compete against what ends up becoming a dull slog through endless repetitions and cardio signup wait times.

A Simple Solution

So how do we stay motivated and thus stay active? Simple, do what you love. Do you love skiing, hiking, rowing, skating? It’s typically not feasible to do these activities 3 to 5 days a week all year long. Fortunately, fitness equipment technology has come a long way. Today, there’s a piece of equipment that emulates most of our favourite pursuits. So, even if you can’t always be doing your favourite activity, you can at least be exercising or training in a way that is very similar and thus be more inclined to stick with it for the long term.

Great Tools

For the hikers out there, the Cybex Arc Trainer or the Octane Max Trainer will likely be the best fit. Both units involve a forward knee lift motion followed by a press just like hiking moderate to steep trails. If winter sports are more your thing, then the Octane’s Lateral X is where you should look. The motion utilized here is a side to side elliptical undulation that best mimics skating or cross-country skiing. It’s also great for conditioning downhill skiers to better soak up moguls or even just the bumps and ruts that start to form later in the day on the slopes. If you’re a more traditional style of Nordic skier, then the Concept 2 Ski Erg will help strengthen and condition the requirement for a powerful core and arm stroke.

And if you love being on the water, it’s hard to beat the WaterRower. WaterRower prides itself on being the most accurate imitation of on-the-water rowing that you can get in your home.

There’s also been innovative advancements within the classic product types. For example, Life Fitness developed the VX My Ride, which is compatible with their IC line of spin bikes, creating a more immersive riding experience. In addition to fitness programming, this console accessory contains actual recorded routes from all over the world. So, you can go cycling through the Rocky Mountains or along the sidewalk near the Eiffel Tower in France. In addition, at Fitness Town we have hundreds of products that our fitness equipment experts can suggest and provide in order to help create a fitness regimen that caters toward your particular interests.

Maintaining a healthy lifestyle isn’t a chore if you love what you’re doing. Hope to see you soon and remember to “Always keep moving.”
